There's nothing more celebratory of the 70's than flared everything, and this time around , it's even better. Gone are the days of atrocious combinations of flare + denim + frindge + tartan all at the same time: the 70's have taught us that some things just dont go together and should be kept apart at all times. Unless you've been living under a rock for practically a whole year now, you would be aware that 70's style trends are coming back into the leading fashion scene but this time with a modern twist; the fashion police has done the alterations to ensure that no fashion crimes are committed once again like previously and instead taught us clever combinations and choices to even out dimensions and keep things modern and high fashion. Although I am deeply in love with pattern comebacks and gigantic fur vests, one of my favourite style icon comebacks for this year is definitely flares. Flares have made a rather impressionable and unmissable comeback on the runway for Paris, Milan, New York and London Fashion Week in a myriad of styles, patterns and cuts which are combined cleverly with complimentary garments to keep things in 2015 and not repeat fashion history. The combination of flared pants + fitted , asymmetrically cut crop tops , wet look boots and bright red lips is so simple to do and yet has such a great aesthetic appeal, and flared pants + structured trench coat/bulky oversized fur vest create a proper modern winter look that allows for both comfort and style. Not limited to just pants, flared out sleeves on shirts create an instant statement piece and the emergence of the oversized flared sleeve and hem line jacket brings the 70's to the otherwise unchangeable classic.
It's a flare affair: the flared pants have made a frequent appearance on the streets and on the catwalk alike; so many opportunities for combinations! the varieties are endless.
One of the things I love most about flares is how versatile the garment instantly becomes. Take a flared pant; usually loose-fitting, but maintains some structure, can come in a huge variety of colours, in a variety of lengths and fabrics. The flared pant can be worn out to work, to a dinner party, a lunch date, university, to the shops, etc. the possibilities are endless because the flared pant can be combine with pieces that will instantly dress up the look or likewise dress it down. Flared pants can be worn with a pair of birks and a simple crop top to create effortless casual chic for university or a brunch date, they can be worn with booties and bright lipstick when going shopping or a semi formal event, and can be worn with a humongous pair of platforms, fitted crop and luxurious accessories for a formal event or a night out. Investing in a pair of flared pants allows for you to re-use the item in many ways and not get bored. I think if there's one thing you need to invest in for this winter it's flared pants; they are a huge fashion staple at the moment and maintain so much versatility you can get away with wearing the same pair of pants every day for a week and just change up your top half + shoes and you're good to go! (for all those lazy people out there this is a dream... this includes me as well... sometimes.) Flared shirts are great because they have a sense of formality to them and when combined with a pair of casual shorts will instantly transform a highly casual outfit into a semi formal/formal one- which is great if you are going to an event and need to maintain some elegance whilst not going overboard.
flares on the catwalk and in new season collections from designers for this upcoming season have been popping up eeeryyyywhere and i'm loving it! From the monochromatic, minimalistic and simplistic cuts and styles, to the structured elegance, and even the bright and whacky patterns and pops of colour; flares are the new go-to trend and work perfectly on any body type !

Who knew the denim flare would come back this good? That's right people, prepare yourself for nostalgia as the denim flared pant makes its way into the high fashion scene and dig those dusty jeans out of your closet because you're definitely going to need them this season.

So, i will finish this off by stating that flares are the coolest thing since sliced bread and although we doubted them at first, and even swore to never see them again; they have come back and I think they're going to stay for good. I think what makes flares so loveable is not only their versatility but their huge customer market; flares can and will compliment any body type and any style which is always a plus and such a huge upside for any company producing them. A big kudos to all the 70's kids who still remember how the original flares trend was like, i wasn't there but I can reassure you that this time around, it'll be even bigger and better than before.
