STYLE ♥ : POPS OF COLOUR

Let's face it: we all know the typical colours to wear in the wintertime are blacks, greys, browns and navys' with the occasional khaki. Yes, they're safe. Yes, they're versatile. Yes, they're flattering, but how boring can they get? Day after day of coldness, and we're not even into winter yet, I have become very very bored of wearing the simple black and white attire. Maybe I am the only one, but I have fallen for the appeal of creating visually eye-capturing and unique outfits but incorporating bright pops of colour. Seen on the New York, Paris, Milan, London and Melbourne Fashion shows, it is no question that designers are taking on neon colours into their colour palette and bringing a new take on the classic winter attire. Not only do bright colours add a sense of individuality, but they make you feel like a kid at heart; something which makes me smile from time to time.

I think one of the hardest things to do when bringing in colour into your wardrobe, is appropriate combinations. I guess this is why people stay away from colour all together; intimidation plays a huge role. They have no idea how to properly combine colours to create the effect they want without going over the top, or how to compliment each garment you're wearing to bring out the piece you want to bring out. There's no point in wearing a bright neon pink shirt if you're wearing a sweater over it and the only part showing is the neckline- no effect achieved. Similaliry, an outfit becomes tacky when you combine more than two neon pieces (particularly in two different colours) together in one outfit unless you properly know how to create a cool effect with all that rainbow play.
However, it's not really that difficult, and in this blog post, I will outline some of my favourite ways designers have utilised colour to create a bright pop of colour, and how I want to this winter, brighten up my wardrobe accordingly.

 Inspirations...

One of the coolest things i've been loving this winter is bag charms. Putting a bright decoration on your bag creates a playful effect and works in favour of your outfit by transforming it without doing anything at all. Take these Fendi bag bugs (pictured below) which have been a favourite of mine since I saw them; they're so cute, bright and big enough to add a statement effect to any outfit, no manner how simplistic. These babies are versatile as hell and they even have their own names! A ripping price tag but a great investment (in my opinion), Fendi Bag bugs have been spotted on the bags of many celebrities, gurus and bloggers and I'm in love.

my favourite bag bugs are a three way tie between the Karlito (mini Karl Langerfield!!!!! pictured bottom left), the Bagood bug (top left), and the Punchy bug (top right).

Another great way of colour addition is through bags! I've seen the colourful bag emerge on the streets and runway alike and I've been dying to get my hands on a good quality, bright coloured bag. There are so many brands, styles and colours to choose from, and these ones pictured below are just a few of my favourites.

And of course, who can forget colourful shoes? If theres one thing that can add immense colour payoff to an outfit, it would be the shoes. Combining a cute pair of bright shoes with a toned down, neutral outfit will instantly give you that pop you're looking for without any effort at all. Runway designers have taken this aspect of fashion to their advantage and created us some killer looks that inspired me to start my own colourful shoe collection!

With the winter coming up, we all want to get rugged up and cozy and still look highly fashionable- and what better way to spice up your look than to invest in a gorgeous, colourful coat/jacket ? I love how designers branched out this season and gave us a myriad of brightly colourful, embellished and unique takes on the classic coat look. Ri Ri proved that you cannot have enough of neon fur coats and even Kylie Jenner showed us that colourful jackets can look oh so flattering and still sophisticated when paired with the right attire. Colourful jackets are in and i'm loving it.

A myriad of gorgeous coats with a special mention to Karen Walker, Miu Miu, Issey Miyake and Givenchy.

These are just some of my favourite ways of adding pops of colour into your style without looking over the top. Colour is a brilliant addition to your wardrobe and can become a staple piece. I love the bright looks designers have incorporated into their collections; inspiring me to branch out and become a colourful wardrobe wearer myself. Although black still, and always will be, my staple favourite shade to wear, I now have a special place in my wardrobe for neons and pastels.

thanks for reading & stay tuned for more...
