Game of Scale AW15 confirms the style trend this upcoming winter; Turtle necks are back, bare legs are in, midi skirts are rocking 90% of all outfits and oversized coats are a must have. Oh, and I've never seen grey become so flattering.

loving the new style trends coming back in from the 70's and 80's.. greys and turtlenecks, midi skirts and huge blazer-jackets. keeping the colour palette cool-toned, Manning Cartell went on a different path compared to their Marigold Collection and stuck with the basics yet still managed to make the collection extremely eye-catching and feminine.

my top 3 looks from Game of Scale AW15.
I am loving the hair tuck into the turtle neck styled with a pencil midi skirt, biker style jacket with a girly touch of pink, and the oversized blazer style coat paired with all white attire to make the whole look stand out and instantly expensive (Alex Perry reference/joke).

Zimmermann wouldn't be Zimmermann without a few swimwear pieces to any collection and although the one-pieces remind me of the previous collection (Resort 15) variations within fabric designs and styles (and playing around with a bit of colour.. love the hued blue) kept it different. I am absolutely in love with the colour palettes for this collection; hued down blues, grey-blues, turquoises dark nudes, whites, blacks, golds and bright corals. remind me to never doubt Zimmermann, especially when it comes to winter time.
My top 3 looks from Zimmermann RTW 2015
I am absolutely in love with the loose flowy dress look at the moment and these pieces were the cherry on top for me. The detail within the garments are to die for and the colour combinations are perfectly chosen to compliment the attire.
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Over the past few weeks (or months) we have been seeing the rise of various trends coming to everyone’s wardrobes this upcoming fall/winter and I am absolutely dying to fill up my closet full of winter must haves. This winter, we’ve witnessed basics turn into statement pieces and the old come back in as the new with minor tweaks to create modern and unique pieces. As well as fashion, beauty essentials have been popping up more and more throughout Paris Fashion Week (and on the streets of our very wonderful and famous Brisvegas). Beauty related pieces that every girl should invest in for this winter include dark lip colours (Marsala, Mauve, Chocolate, Vampy Reds, Dark Nudes) and subtle soft pink/coral blushes with minimalistic/neutral make-up. Enhancing what’s already there instead of trying to hide things you don’t like is the key to looking natural and flawless and not over the top. In this case, winter is all about enhancing the rosy tint of your cheeks and bringing the focus to the lips.
In this post, I have included my top 10 winter essentials; beauty and fashion related that I (and I suggest you) invest in your every day wardrobe for le Winter 2015.
1- Oversized Jackets
I have been going on and on and on and on (and on…) about the oversized trench coat/blazer coming back into fashion from the 70’s. Paris Fashion Week has seen numerous numbers of oversized trench coats/jackets/blazers both in funky prints and basic neutral colours and all looking gorgeous. Chanel sported the ankle length knitted trench coats paired with the weird Chanel sneaker, and on the Chloe runway we saw elegance turned chic as flowy fabrics combined with fitted shin-length coats draped elegantly over models’ bodies and move effortlessly as beautiful humans-turned-giants graced down the catwalk. The oversized coat is so loved this season because it’s versatile and so flattering on anyone: the coat can be dressed up or down depending on the complimentary garments worn and still keep you looking highly stylish and warm at the same time. There are so many different styles of the oversized trench coat and they can literally be found anywhere: just go into a store that has jackets and pick up a few sizes from the one you usually wear (if they don’t have any oversized jackets on hand) and viola! You have just created your own version of the oversized trench coat. If you’re a little bit short on money or just don’t feel like hunting around for an oversized jacket that doesn’t look too daggy or cheap, you can always borrow your boyfriends/brothers/dads jackets (I do that sometimes and all the jackets/coats/blazers that I end up borrowing always make me feel awesome and stylish, minus the spending).
I love pairing my oversized jackets with a pair of high heeled booties and a midi skirt/dress. Balanced out the oversized with the structured and tight fitting; it adds femininity to the outfit and keeps you from looking daggy.
2- Midi Skirt
I have already done a lengthy and detailed post about the wonders and popularity of the midi skirt, but I will briefly get into its' glory yet again ( just to get it into your head). The midi skirt is the new style trend of the season and has been re-invented by pretty much every designer throughout the world in one way or another; signifying that it is a style-must have. Pattern, bold colours or the classic black/white/nude, the midi skirt is a piece which can be transformed to suit anyones' look and to fit any occasion; from workwear to fancy dinner party. Having a midi skirt for your winter wardrobe is also good because it allows you to still wear a skirt (without tights or freezing your legs off.. literally) throughout the chilly months and not restrict your wardrobe to pants and jeans of many colours (rotating from dark blue to light blue jeans is sooo last year people.) Midi skirts can also be knit material and still look highly fashionable and stylish, and they can also be quite loose fitting or body hugging depending on what you like/where you're going.
I love wearing my midi skirts on pretty much any occasion and have invested in several styles throughout the months to stock up for the winter seasons.
3- Turtleneck (Dresses,tops,knits)
Long gone are the days of awkward turtleneck sweaters making you look like a cross between Velma off Scooby Doo and Steve Jobs. Turtlenecks are now the hip, go-to , modern winter piece and I am so grateful for the fact that I am now able to keep my neck warm without a scarf (me and scarves don't get along very well). The coolest thing about the turtle neck is that it can be worn either loose or tight and it'll look super duper cool; and i'm loving the inclusion of the turtleneck dress and long sleeveless knits for this upcoming winter. Loose turtlenecks can be styled effortlessly with an a-line/midi/mini/bodycon/skater skirt or with loose/tight pants or even jeans, long sleeveless turtleneck knits combined with harem pants would look amazing and the turtleneck dress is elegant and edgy at the same time. LOVE. For my turtleneck wardrobe that I am investing in and expanding for this upcoming season I have included a loose turtleneck bodycon knit dress, a turtleneck sweater and the classic tight fitting turtleneck that can be easily combined with any skirt I have on hand.
4- Fur Jackets
I'm not going to go into the ethical side of the fur jacket within this post because it would just make things complicated and probably evoke some heated discussions which I am not ready to partake in, however, the fur jacket (whether it be faux or legit) has and always will be an essential in anyones' winter wardrobe. Being a Russian, me and fur get on very well. very, very well. Faux fur is definitely sold readily and consistently on the Australian market and goes off for a decent price; you can literally find any style of faux fur jackets online and in store and they look pretty damn good. Fur jackets have been a classic piece to wear in winter and they aren't taking a back seat this year around; designers from all over the world have accompanied their collections with a few variations of the fur jacket and I am loving the playful feel and the vintage-turned modern technique that is repeated for F/W 2015. Love love love. For this winter I am planning to combine my fur jackets with a pair of high waisted pants or mini dress to balance out the structured with the voluminous. Oh, and boots of course. Fur + boots is the perfect combo for a Russian gal.
5- High-heeled ankle boots
This isn't really a new one to hit the streets, as boots have always been a staple in pretty much anyones' wardrobes when it comes to the winter months, but I thought I would include them anyway just for a little bit of bootie praise (no pun intended, lol). I love boots so much I manage to rock them in summer but I am dyinggggg to expand my boot collection for F/W 2015 because there are so many different styles, finishes and colours to choose from; anyone can get carried away. Boots can be rocked with pretty much any attire mentioned above (or any attire period) and can instantly transform an outfit from boring to chic in an instant. Whenever I put my boots on (high heeled or flat) I start strutting my stuff and feel like I'm on a mini catwalk show wherever I go, I just cannot resist the awesomeness of what the boot gives me. Boots keep your feet warm and your style on point, and I suggest to go out and buy literally any and every colour you see cause you might as well just live in them this winter; I know I will be. I'm even contemplating on making a mini boot shrine in my wardrobe, no shame here.
6- Dark Lips
One of the coolest things about fashion is that the style doesn't have to stop at the clothes: the stuff you put on your face can play a huge role in the overall look of the outfit you've created. Monochromatic and cool toned colours are all the hype and what perfect way to tie the look together with a bold dark lip. My favourite is combining greys with a dark chocolate/vampy red lip to bring back colour into my face and not look washed out from all that greyness. Dark lips also keep things a tiny bit mysterious and bring a more mature& fierce look to the whole outfit you're weaving and I really admire that. Nars and Mac do a great line of dark lipsticks and I am totally in love with any lipsticks that have a good colour pay off and aren't going to rub off within an hour. I'm going to be sporting my dark lip this winter and I suggest you do too (so we can be dark lip matching buddies)
7- Soft pink/coral blush
Going with the theme of mentioning beauty products, I will not forget to include the ever so loved and ever so flattering soft pink/coral hues sported on cheeks for the winter months. Every year, I have been loving that flushed pink, slightly i'm going to freeze my ass off soon cheeks that bring an innocent, glowing youthful look to any face and complete any winter outfit. Blush is one of those things where you have to know how much is too much and how much is just enough from making you look like a circus clown (unless you are after that look, if so then go ahead #nojudge) but I recommend just dabbing your brush very lightly into the pan and sweeping up in a circular motion starting at the apples of the cheeks up to the cheekbone. Be careful not to apply too close to the eye area and smile when applying!! My favourite blush hues to go by this winter include soft pinks with hints of glitter (adds a glow to the face) and borderline coral shades that are very toned down yet still pop when put on le face.
8- Culottes
Making its' way through the spring & summer seasons and hanging around for the colder climates, the culottes have been the it-garment for the second half of 2014 and through to 2015. I am loving the culottes because they are a mix between harem pants and midi skirts and are perfect to wear when its' windy but you still want to throw on a piece that's loose fitting and shows off a bit of leg. The perfect culottes create the illusion of a smaller waist and a petite frame and are awesome for hiding pet peeves about your legs (if you have any that is). This winter, culottes are perfect to wear with a pair of high heeled boots, a nice biker/fitted jacket and a nude lip.
9- Lace
Lace pants, lace trim jackets, lace dresses, even lace throw-overs are making their way from the summer months into the winter months through the wonders of layering. Lace is awesome because it instantly gives femininity to any outfit and softens the look on any structured/fitted piece. Lace also reminds of the summer months and, if done correctly, will add just enough sexy to your oufit without going over the top and making everything lingerie-like (save that for the bedroom, guys). I loveeeee the incorporation of lace material clothing for the winter months because layering can look so damn good when done correctly and will bring out the fashion stylist in you as you can mix and match styles and materials together which is always so fun. This year, I am investing in a lace skirt and perhaps even a lace dress (if my bank account won't be crying by that time) to be able to mix and match as my little heart pleases!
10- Bomber Jackets
This style trend has been a massive must have for the last few winters as designers have come out with amazing styles, colour and pattern combinations to throw on bomber jackets and instantly transform a boring piece into a mind-blowing stunner. Josh Goot is the god of bomber jackets and sets the standards of the perfect style every time, but if you are a little bit short on cash, Topshop, Keepsake the Label, Staple the Label, Cameo, The Fifth and even Forever21 have a pretty damn good array of bomber jackets to choose from. If you're a fan of online shopping, check out missguided.com and asos.com; they have plenty of styles and cuts to choose from and most of them are less than $100 !! (cha-ching for bargains) Bomber jackets are awesome to wear with a-line/skater mini skirts and loose fitted shorts to get that casual vibe; or you can dress it up with a midi skirt/fitted pants and heels and wear it out to a party (fashion has no rules!!)
And here we have it. Two beautiful collection releases and some style-must haves for the new season. If this post can be summed up in a few words it would be; mild-hyperventilation, lots of layering action& vintage revamped. Love.
thanks for reading& stay tuned for more...
